A very warm welcome to Tettenhall Wood Photographic Club. We meet nearly every Tuesday at 7:45 p.m. prompt, during the season between September and June. We meet on the first floor of The Institute, which is a fully accessible building. Prospective New Members and Visitors are always welcome to attend without obligation. Because of a rise in membership over recent years, we are having to limit the numbers of new members in accordance with the limits of the venue that we use. Anyone who is interested in becoming a member is advised to contact our Membership Secretary, Mike Bradshaw, CPAGB, BPE3*, AFIAP in the first instance. This leaflet sets out to give you a flavour of ‘Club Life’, and what we get up to.
The Club The Club is now into its 29th year and is affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain through the Midland Counties Photographic Federation. The aims of the Club are to promote photography, and photographic achievement and skills, in a relaxed, friendly and supportive atmosphere. Members are encouraged to progress at a pace they are happy with, whilst allowing them to judge themselves against their peers, both within the Club and externally. The membership is made up of people of wide ranging interests and ability; from absolute beginners, and those with a passive interest in photography, to those who have reached an advanced level of competence. We all like to enjoy photography, in its many guises, and no one takes matters too seriously.
Meetings Meetings take place in a relaxed friendly atmosphere, with the emphasis on enjoyment of the common interest. The programme is varied and interesting and consists of: • presentations/lectures by well known and respected photographers. • monthly competitions. • demonstrations. • inter-club competitions. • visits to exhibitions. • practical sessions. • members’ nights. There is even time for a chat over a cup of tea and a biscuit.
Competitions Members are welcome to enter prints and digital images in monthly competitions, with trophies being awarded to the most successful photographer in each class, at the end of the season. There are currently three classes, General, for those just starting in competition, and Intermediate and Advanced for those with an increasing degree of proficiency and skill. There are also one off events for all members to participate in at intervals through the year. The Club also enters into Inter-Club Battles with other local Clubs; where we have the opportunity to judge ourselves against other photographers, who will have different ideas and thoughts. These events are always enjoyable and are part of the learning process.
Digital Imaging The Club encourages all forms of image production and has its own Digital Imaging equipment. Most members now use digital capture and image making techniques, so help and advice is always readily available from our in-house ‘experts’.
Exhibitions Members are encouraged, and assisted, to enter images in local, national and even international exhibitions and, as a Club, we have been quite successful in recent years. Visits to such exhibitions are also encouraged so that members can view and learn from a wide variety of top class images.
Field Trips We try to arrange field trips through the year. The purpose of the trips is to have fun taking photographs in a group situation so that thoughts, ideas and techniques can be interchanged. The venues for these trips vary from local landmarks to day, or even weekend, trips to places further afield, where good photos are to be obtained.
Running the Club The Club is run for and on behalf of the members by a Committee of officers and members. The Committee has the responsibility to ensure that the Club runs smoothly and efficiently and that the various interests and requirements of members are reasonably met. Unfortunately, we have to pay for our enjoyment. However, with Annual Subscription of £17.50 (concessions may be available in some instances) and a nightly charge of £2.00, we think that you will find it to be good value for money.
