Now that we have moved in to 2012, we are pleased to say that we still have more excellent evenings of photographic entertainment to come, so do have a look at the Programme and come along, you will be very welcome and we are sure you will have an enjoyable evening.
On Tuesday 3rd January we held our first digital image knockout competition. This was something we used to do regulalry with slides (remember them?) so it was good to use modern technology to bring back an old favourite. The evening went very well and everyone entered into the spirit of the event, which was very well judged by our old friend Roger Hague, who stepped in at the last minute. The winning image was “Nesting Shag” by Paul Cotton, but nobody took matters too seriously.
The 2nd Round of this season’s Print Competition was held on Tuesday 6th December. Peter Gennard MFIAP, EFIAP/p was the esteemed (or should that be steamed) judge and the Placed Prints and the Scores can be seen on the Results page. The Second Round of the Projected Images Competition was held on 10th January, when Dave Deeming LRPS was our judge, and the results have now been posted on the Results page as well. The placed images from all three classes can be viewed on our Competition Gallery page.
This year’s Portfolio Competition was held on 29th November and a good competition it was. Our Judge, Roger Hague DPAGB had 46 panels of 3 prints to judge and did an excellent job of positively commenting on them all, and then picking the 9 scoring panels, from which the winner was eventually chosen. The results have been posted onto the Results page and the scores carried forward to the race for POTY.
The first battle of the season, our annual 3 way against Kidderminster C.C. and Hagley C.C, on Monday 17th October, proved to be very successful for us, as we won both the Print and PI sections and came out as overall winners by a healthy margin. The whole evening was very enjoyable and there was some excellent images on display from all 3 clubs, all very well judged by John Hartshorne. Unfortunately, our second battle, against Wolverhampton P.S. and judged by Peter Clarke FRPS, EFIAP/g, was less successful as we came second. We did win the PI’s by 1 point but, having lost the Prints by 4 points, we were left 3 short in the final reckoning. Nonetheless, we did have a good evening and thanks to WPS for their hospitality.
This year’s Christmas Walk, on 30th December, started and finished at The Bell at Trysull and we would like to thank this year’s organisers, Dave and Gaynor Ormerod for doing a good job of finding the route and arranging for the rain to hold off until we got back to the pub.
As advance warning, this season’s Themed Competition, on 27th March, has as it’s theme, “Olympic Sports”. Specifically that is any sport listed on the London 2012 web site, including Paralympic sports. The images do not have to be taken at the Olympic Games, but be representative of the sport and taken anywhere where these sports are carried out, either during competition or at training sessions. The title must specify the sport portrayed. Check out the list at http://www.london2012.com/sport.
The Chairman’s Challenge will also be slightly different this year with entries consisting of “traditional” and “creative” images, of the same subject, being displayed in tandem. Scores will be awarded for each image and also for the pair so there is plenty of scope to produce some masterpieces. Full details available on the ‘Resources’ page.
